For those of you who could not attend, it’s time to for a PACK EXPO 2017 recap! If you weren’t able to see us at our booth, this year’s PACK EXPO Las Vegas was one of the most attended, most successful shows for QuickLabel & TrojanLabel.

Selling units right off the floor at both the main PACK EXPO booth and Healthcare Packaging booth, we were ecstatic from the positive reception of our new business unit and product releases.

Expanding Our Printing Solutions

Since our business unit expanded to include TrojanLabel™, a growing force in the digital label press, overprinting and specialty printers industry (February 2017), we had yet to host a trade show together in the USA –making this year’s PACK EXPO Las Vegas all the more exciting.

A fantastic complement to our tabletop label printers, TrojanLabel products include the T3-OP (Trojan3), a digital professional packaging and converting overprinting system and the T2 (Trojan2), a sophisticated digital label mini press and more exclusive printers released at the show.

The acquisition of TrojanLabel helped to amplify the strength and capabilities of both brands as known leaders in the industry of tabletop label printers for in-house custom color labels and professional label presses and specialty printers.

Being our first show together in the USA, we were ecstatic to share our experience at PACK EXPO together as well as see how well it was recognized by the current and new customers that visited our booth!

Exclusive PACK EXPO Product Releases 

Perhaps the most eventful portion of PACK EXPO 2017 was the unveiling of our latest QuickLabel and TrojanLabel label printer and presses.

As a show exclusive, booth visitors were able to view live demonstrations and learn more about the benefits of our four new innovative solutions:

  • QL-30 and QL-60
  • Trojan™ T2-C
  • Trojan™ T4

 

QL-30 & QL-60

New QuickLabel thermal printers

Both compact, monochrome high-speed thermal transfer printers the QL-30 and QL-60 are perfect for barcoding and other one-color labeling applications. Innovative upgrades include a full-color touchscreen interface, complete with video and Wi-Fi. Ideal applications for the QL-30 and QL-60 are hazardous substance labeling, including cardboard boxes, pallets and other exposed surfaces.

Trojan T2-C

With the full capacity of a larger press, the T2-C is a compact label press that easily fits into any size print department with a footprint of less than 4 square feet. For ideal print quality and registration, the T2-C is optimized with automatic tension control, built-in web guide and intuitive TrojanControl touch panel interface. The T2-C is designed for 24/7 production and ideal for brand owners, print shops and professional label converters.

Trojan T4

While not at the show, the Trojan T4 was simultaneously released and displayed at Labelexpo Europe.

An all-in-one digital label production and finishing press, the Trojan T4 extends the TrojanLabel product line into the high-production environment for professional label converting. For advanced label production and finished rolls of superior quality, the T4’s advanced digital inkjet press prints, laminates, die cuts and slits brilliant full-bleed color labels up to 1600 x 1600 dpi resolution at speeds up to 60 feet/18 meters per minute. A compact all-in-one label production solution, the T4 is fast, reliable and easy to use, while taking up less than 7-1/2 feet of work space.

Overall, we were happy to share our total labeling solutions and printing solutions with attendees to help accelerate and enhance their business.

Packaged for Your Valentine: Is Seasonal Packaging Worth It?

It’s that time of year again. You’re probably used to seeing pink and red hearts, fluffy bears, seasonal packaging and Cupid whizzing around by now. As soon as the winter holidays come to a close, it’s time to share the love.

But does it really work?

Do consumers really prefer the Valentine version of your product?

According to Packaging Digest, 65% of US consumers prefer seasonal packaging to regular packaging.

That means over half of US consumers are more likely to reach for the seasonal themed batch of goods. It’s all about the visual appeal.

Think about it, the main reason chocolates and baked goods are purchased during the month of February is due to the nature of Valentine’s Day. In spirit, the consumer will reach for the red heart chocolate bag instead.

According to the Complete Guide to Seasonal Packaging by Mary Davies, “in order to stay competitive with the big brands it is essential that you adopt seasonal packaging.”

In a Label & Narrow Web article, Superbrands founder Marcel Knobil supports Davies statement by expressing, “Thanks to impressive print packaging, brands can seduce customers into a change of purchasing vote at the point of purchase. We would end up with less brand and more bland were it not for the attention that the packaging attracts.”

So seasonal packaging is the right idea, but how do you know if it’s the right idea for you?

Unfortunately, it does depend on what industry you are in. A company that sells plastic tubing would not benefit as much as a company known for their gourmet chocolates.

Davies expands, “a bakery is much more likely to benefit from changing their packaging than a stationary supplier. Think about your business model, your products and your customers and then decide whether there would be a benefit to using seasonal packaging.”

So if seasonal packaging is right for you, there are two important things to remember before you get started:

  1. Don’t confuse your customer
    By not make your designs similar to another product you already offer, it could confuse your customer and cause them to shy away from the product altogether.
  2. Don’t overestimate
    If you don’t have your own in-house label printer, it’s easier to make your packaging labels a limited time offer vs. overstocking on labels that will ultimately go to waste.

Whether you are a business small or large, it is definitely worthwhile to invest in seasonal packaging.

But where do you start?

To get the creative juices flowing, we’ll leave you with Hornall Anderson’s top tips of incorporating holiday packaging into your business:

  1. Create a tradition
    Pair your product with something extra in the spirit of the season, and keep it going each year.
  2. Make collectibles
    Packages that are part of a set or able to be repurposed in an innovative way.
  3. Make gifting easier
    Gifting through unique or personalized packaging is beautiful enough to be a gift itself.
  4. Create a campaign
    Build “fanfare” around your product launch.
  5. If you can’t avoid clichés, have fun with them!
    Look for visual and tonal treatments that evoke the season without being overly dependent on overused symbols, or look for ways to turn them on their head.

Kiaro! Couples: Get to Know Our Sweethearts

This Valentine’s Day, we wanted to get you to know more about the beautiful relationships we’ve brought to life. Especially the lives of our Kiaro! couples.

As you’ve probably seen in our latest Facebook post, we recently named the Kiaro! and Rewinder our couple of the year. After all, they’ve created some wonderful labels together.

But they aren’t the only relationship we’ve taken notice of. Looking back, we realize we’ve become quite the matchmaking system.

While we love all of the customer relationships we’ve created, there are several sweethearts that stand out. Coincidentally, they make some pretty sweet products.

O&H Danish Bakery

The family-owned Danish bakery located in Racine, Wisconsin enhanced the appearance of their bakery labels by printing with the Kiaro! inkjet label printer.

O&H Bakery is known for their traditional Danish Kringle, a flaky oval pastry that takes 3 days to bake, with a variety of seasonal toppings, fillings and icings. They come in flavors such as the Wisconsin, Cream Cheese and one of their most popular, Almond Kringle.

Their Kringle’s are so popular that they are not only enjoyed by President Obama, but by thousands of buyers around the world with varying tastes.

With their online and mail order business, they have order requests for any mix of products come in at any time, giving them no way to predict the exact quantity of labels they need for each type of Kringle.

Finding pre-printed labels costly and wasteful, O&H knew they needed a printer that could accommodate for the unpredictability of demand.

Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe knows all things key lime.

Amoretti®

Hailing from Oxnard, CA, Amoretti does things a little differently.

Instead of making the sweets and treats, they supply the ingredients for executive chefs, gourmet pastry makers and food and beverage brands to make products taste just right. This includes high quality ingredients and flavorings such as first-class syrups, coffee flavorings, pastry ingredients and especially their premium martini mixes.

Two more to be exact.

Why? Because their trio of Kiaro!’s was exactly what they were looking for.

Last but certainly not least, we made quite the match with Browndog Creamery.

Located in the heart of downtown Northville, Michigan, they’re a “micro-creamery” that brings customers delicious and unique handcrafted ice creams. Some of their seasonal flavors include Gingerbread, Old Man Winter, Boozy Eggnog and the ever popular French Press Mocha.

Not only did they need a fast, reliable but quality printer, they had very specific requirements our Kiaro! had to meet.

Requirements like producing labels that withstand the freezing temperatures necessary for storing ice cream or delivering flexibility to meet continuous product rotation.

You see, instead of mass producing the same flavors of ice cream, Browndog only makes small batches that rotate and change frequently.

When they found out their ‘cool personality’ didn’t faze the Kiaro! labels (which can withstand temperatures from -65°F to 147°F), they knew they were meant to be together.
